Shepherd’s Pie
Meat and potatoes are always a good combination. Shepherd’s pie was one of my absolute favorite dishes as a child. I’d stalk my mother in the kitchen whenever she made one. I remember staring through the foggy glass window of the oven door. “Is it ready yet?” “Why can’t we eat it now?” The components are fully cooked when it goes into the oven, so I couldn’t understand why she made me wait to dig in. Mmmm Meatballs
I’ve always loved tomatoes and that’s no exaggeration. According to my mother, I’ve been craving them since I was in her womb. So when my friend Gretchen told me about a recipe that requires a hearty helping of diced tomatoes, there was no doubt that I’d try it. Her excited description hinted at the gloriousness, but I had no idea, they’d be so good. The Grocery List
I make a grocery list (and menu) every week. It makes a big impact on my shopping experience. It cuts down on the time I spend wandering the aisles and eliminates anguish about what to cook. I muster up at least 4 meal ideas for the week with the option of D’Giorgno or Stouffers for nights I’m too tired. But the list takes no more than 10 minutes to make. Sometimes, (almost every time) I’ll write it out in the parking lot of the grocery store. I just can’t go in unarmed! First, I list the meals. Sometimes it helps to make the most of one ingredient.
