Not a baker…
My name is Chaundra. I am NOT a baker.
I do love baked goods, however.
I just don’t enjoy making them.
Baking: is the technique of prolonged cooking of food by dry heat acting by convection, and not by radiation, normally in an oven.
I think it’s the “prolonged” part that turns me off. It’s so painstakingly precise too. You actually have to pay attention to detail, doling out exact measurements of each ingredient.
Then! You have to wait, wait, and wait a lil more to see if it all turns out okay.
That’s not my speed. I like to taste as I go and you can’t eat too much raw batter. Even if you did, it wouldn’t necessarily let you know how the end product will turn out. Unlike a savory sauce, for instance, that you can dip into it at any stage and get an accurate sampling.
Last night, I felt compelled to bake. Valentine’s Day is this weekend and I told myself I’d be sure to get Mini Me involved in the kitchen. We made cakes for the teachers at her daycare center. I took my mom’s classic pound cake recipe and added some bonus items i.e. cinnamon and pecans. Each one got a cellophane baggie with a piece of the original and the pecan version.
Happy Valentine’s, Ladies!

For not being a baker, it loks like the pound cakes came out perfectly!
I LOVE baking, btw. 🙂 I’m not sure why, though. The measuring and kneading/mixing/folding/figuringoutwhichisappropriate… *lol* Tempering vs. melting makes a difference… when to add wet to dry ingredients… You get it. But, still, I absolutely love it!

Ladies I’m working on my baking skills. I think it’s important for me to have some balance.
@Rosie, I don’t love it…yet!
@Jen,I’ll think about it. 😉
