Grateful: Day 1, The Fall

yellowleaf

Today, I am grateful for the fall.

I think of it as a period of renewal and rejuvenation.

The leaves change colors, then they all fall away. The transformation is miraculous, to me.

I grew up in South Florida. We had palm trees and they were always green and it’s always sunny and hot (unless it’s raining, but then after the rain, it’s right back to blistering).

I really didn’t know, I mean, I seriously I had no idea about seasons until I got older. As a child, summer was the time we had away from school and fall was when we went back to school. I suppose winter was when we celebrated Christmas and I don’t believe I really ever thought about the spring. By no means was this sad, we could practically wear the same clothing all year. My perspective was just limited.

Fast forward.

Now, I live in north Georgia and I get to experience all four seasons. It’s absolutely beautiful.

When I see green leaves turn orange, and yellow and red I get so excited! I feel happy and I want to capture the images. I take pictures of leaves and want to frame them. I like to rake them into piles and smell their essence as I bag them up. I will spend all day outside raking and bagging leaves and it’s a good day.

During this time of year, the weather is actually perfect. It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold. It’s fall.

Sweaters are soft and warm and you get to wrap your neck with scarves and eat soup. Fall conjures up all the comfort and cozy.

And I’m thankful for that.

I’m grateful for the ability to enjoy outdoor weather in October, and for the opportunity to continue a friendship with my favorite birthday twin, and one of the best cooks I know. 🙂

Whenever I am asked this question it almost seems impossible to answer. There is so much in my life to be grateful for but today my answer is simple, I am grateful for my loved ones, my family. I couldn’t imagine life without them.
