Bre-vana, also known as Breakfast Nirvana
I love mornings. Each one is a new beginning. A fresh start. Another chance to live. And since breakfast is the first meal of the day, it too, has a special place in my heart. I savor days when I have enough time and the right ingredients to make a breakfast dish that is thoroughly satisfying. I’d been craving Huevos Rancheros for a few days. This meal, although big and messy, brought on a state of utter bliss. I’m calling it Bre-vana, breakfast + nirvana.

Zuppa Toscana
Some ridiculous things happened this week. The temperature dropped to 5 degrees, all the schools and many businesses closed. There was no snow, but the metro-Atlanta area did observe a few cold days. I still have no idea what 5 degrees feels like. I didn’t participate. I too, a native Floridian, paid my respect to the Hawk by staying at home. But what I do know is that the occasion called for some soup. Good soup. My favorite is the Zuppa Toscana from the Olive Garden restaurant chain. But as previously discussed, I was not going outside. Hoppin’ John {and a new year}
Happy New Year!! In the South it’s tradition to eat black eyed peas on New Year’s Day for good luck in the coming year. You could also eat collards, chitterlings, throw salt over your shoulders or make sure a man is the first person to cross your threshold, AND that there are no dirty clothes in the house. I know, that’s a lot and more than a little too much. Man can really get carried away with tradition and superstition and the notion of luck. But back to the black eyed peas.
